Dear Members of the Public,
We are reaching out to you on behalf of Org Meyer Voortrekkers, a registered division of Die Voortrekkers. Our mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lifetime by instilling in them the values of Die Voortrekkers.
October is International Breast Cancer Awareness month, a time to remind one another of the importance of regular mammography and self-examinations. Breast cancer can affect anyone, and early detection is crucial. While mammography may not be a pleasant experience, it is necessary and important for our health.
We have all been affected by breast cancer in some way. We all know someone—a family member, a friend, a co-worker—who has battled this disease. It’s a battle that we, as a community, must fight together.
- Breast cancer is a significant health concern in South Africa, affecting both women and men. According to the National Cancer Registry, one in 26 women in South Africa are at risk of developing breast cancer, and it accounts for 16% of cancer deaths1. In 2018, females accounted for 51.3% of cancers diagnosed in South Africa, while males accounted for 48.6%2.
- It’s important to note that men are also susceptible to breast cancer. South Africa has the highest incidence of male breast cancer in the world, with 1-3% of all breast cancer cases diagnosed in South Africa occurring in men. It is estimated that up to 400 cases of male breast cancer were diagnosed in South Africa during 2018.
These statistics underscore the importance of early detection and regular screenings for both women and men. The “Paint It Pink” challenge is a crucial initiative in raising awareness about this disease and encouraging early detection, which can significantly improve survival rates. Let’s stand together in the fight against breast cancer.
This is why we are launching the “PAINT IT PINK” Challenge, an initiative aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer. We are throwing a challenge out to all the men. Are you man enough to paint a pink ribbon on your nails? This bold statement shows that you are secure in your manhood and ready to stand up against breast cancer. Why not log onto Org Meyer Voortrekkers and go and dare your friends to do it with you.
Supporting loved ones by visiting, listening, and simply living life is the best thing to do. But here is something a little extra that shows that you are united in Care. Paint your nails pink and show your support for the fight against breast cancer.
We invite everyone, regardless of gender or age, to participate in this initiative. We especially encourage you to dare your fathers, managers, and even your rugby teams to join in. Let’s turn this challenge into a fun, inclusive activity that brings us together for a good cause.
We encourage you to log onto our website at Org Meyer Voortrekkers and dare a loved one, be it a man or woman, to “PAINT IT PINK” this October. Your participation can make a difference.
Thank you for your support.
